WHAT IS POI?

Poi is a performance art in which a ball or balls suspended from a length of flexible material, usually a plaited cord, are held in the hand and swung in circular patterns. Poi has developed many forms used worldwide as a hobby, exercise, or performance art alongside juggling and forms of object manipulation.

Poi performances are undertaken in darkness to dramatic effect with poi including a light source, such as UV-sensitive materials, LED lights, or chemical glow sticks. Performers often employ brightly colored, contrasting poi to distinguish their performance, enhance aesthetics, and emphasize pattern; to this end, tails and streamers may be attached to poi.  Poi performances are popular at music festivals and events.

I provide Fire and Light entertainment for all types of events or occasions in the form of poi dancing. I invite you to explore my site and send me an email to discuss the needs of your event!

One fire dancer not enough? I have many colleagues who work with various other props, such as hula hoop, staff, sabres, buugeng, and juggling. All of which can also be done with fire!

I am located in Edmonton, Alberta, but I will travel if needed. I have gone as far as Grand Prairie and Saskatoon for shows.

If you are interested in learning poi, feel free to look at my tutorials page, or ask me about anything you wanted to learn.
